Washing Machines – Fun Facts

Believe it or not, there are some people out there who think that reading a blog about washing machines is no fun. I know, I know, I didn’t believe it either. But to mix things up a little, we’re going to throw some fun facts your way and hope at least a couple of them stick. Don’t worry, they’re clean, they’ve just come out the wash!

1 – Washing machines account for over 22% of the total water used every day across the pond in the USA. For you mathematicians out there, that’s almost a quarter! Figures like this are the reason companies are looking to make washing machines more economic with water.

2 – Washing machines use, on average, .250 kilowatt-hours of energy per wash; about 1 megajoule of electricity. That figure means nothing to us either, but it does mean that washing machines use less energy than the Delorean and its 1.21 gigawatts. Like we told you, fun facts!

3 – Ever lost some socks? Check inside your washing machine! Apparently our spinning friends account for 93% of the lost socks in the average household. The other 7% is made up by thrifty mice looking for miniature sleeping bags. FACT.

4 – It’s possible to convert your top loading washing machine into a front loading model. All it takes is a little bit of money and some washing machine know-how! Alternatively, you can just push your washing machine over. But it might stop working.

5 – Washing machines that also include a dryer are known as Combo units. They require a little more concentration, as putting your dirty clothes in the dryer, or your dry clothes in the washer can cause both stress and frustration.

There you have it, 5 fun facts about washing machines! Come back next time for more irreverent washing machine-related blogging.
